bean schrieb:I wanted Gunmetal slidemasters with a chrome lip. SWP doesn't make them, so I decided to DIY them to my liking. Here are the steps I took.
1. Cut square pieces of masking tape and set them flush against the bottom of the spokes.
2. Mask off the backside of the wheel. Cut slits in the tape so they fold easier.
3. Cut triangular pieces of tape to go between the spokes. Since the are triangular, you can insert them from the front of the wheel and flush them up against the sides of the spokes. Do this carefully or you will get overspray on your dish.
4. Here is what the wheel looks like
-Unmodified
-Masked
-Masked and with scuffed spokes (2000 grit sandpaper). You want them scuffed (no deep scrapes) so the paint has something to grab onto. Since you want the wheels to remain smooth, use a super-fine grit like 2000.

5. Painting
-I put 2 cups of water in the microwave for 2 min on high. Shake up the can of paint while the water is heating.
-I then poured the water into a small mixing bowl, and put the paint can in the bowl for about 5 min.
-Shake the paint for another minute.
-Spray the paint into the air (not into oncoming wind) to make sure it mists properly...no paint splatters. If it doesn't come out in a mist, clean the nozzle.
-Spray light even coats that start before the wheels (do all of them at the same time) and end after the wheels. I give it 20 minutes to dry between coats...10-15 on a hot day.
-I let my paint dry for 9 hrs before removing the masking.
Final result:
Gunmetal (left) Gunmetal with polished lip (right)
Optional:
Apply a clear coat to the wheels to make the spokes glossy. The clear coat will also help keep them from chipping a little. The downside is that the clear coat will probably not leave the chrome with a mirror-like shine. It will be slightly hazed. Wet-sanding and polishing will help restore the finish, bit it probably won't be as shinny.
That's the way I paint wheels. If you have a better way, post it here.

Hoffe ich bekomm dadurch keine Probleme
